Use these eight tasks for timed speaking practice. Focus on answering the question directly, organizing your ideas clearly, using varied vocabulary and speaking naturally instead of memorizing complete answers.

Task 1

Giving Advice

Practice Question: Your friend has been offered a chance to start their own small business, but it means quitting a stable job with a steady income. Give your friend advice on whether they should take the risk.

Tip: Give a clear recommendation and support it with practical reasons.
Task 2

Personal Experience

Practice Question: Talk about a time when you had to adapt to a big change. Maybe you moved to a new city or changed jobs. What was the change, how did you adjust, and how did it make you feel?

Tip: Tell a clear story with a situation, action, result and feeling.
Task 3

Describe the Picture

Practice Question: Describe the picture to someone who cannot see it.

Tip: Move logically from the overall setting to the foreground, centre, background, left and right sides.
Task 4

Make Predictions

Practice Question: Look at the same picture in Task 3 again and predict what might happen next.

Tip: Base predictions on visible clues and use phrases such as “I think,” “it is likely that,” and “there is a good chance that.”
Task 5

Comparing and Persuading

Practice Question: You and your friend are both looking to buy a new phone case. You've each picked a different option. Compare the two and convince your friend that your choice is the better buy.

Tip: Compare price, features, protection and value, then clearly persuade your friend.
Task 6

Difficult Situation

Practice Question: You promised to help your neighbour move furniture this Saturday, but your manager just asked you to cover an urgent shift at work the same day. You can't do both.

Tip: Choose one person to speak to, explain the problem politely and offer an alternative.
Task 7

Express an Opinion

Practice Question: Do you think universities should make internships a mandatory part of every degree program?

Tip: State your opinion early, give two strong reasons and support at least one reason with an example.
Task 8

Unusual Situation

Practice Question: You found an unusual, oddly-shaped kite tangled in a tree outside your apartment building. Call the building management office, describe it and ask if anyone has reported it missing.

Tip: Make the response sound like a real phone call and describe the object clearly.
