Giving Advice
Your friend was offered a promotion that requires moving to a new city where they don't know anyone. Give them advice on how to handle the transition.
Sample Response
If I were in your position, I would seriously consider accepting the promotion, especially if it provides good opportunities for your career. Moving to a new city can certainly be challenging, but it could also help you develop both professionally and personally.
First of all, I would recommend researching the new city before moving. You could look for neighbourhoods that are convenient, safe and close to your workplace. I would also suggest joining local clubs or community groups so that you can meet new people and build a social network.
For example, if you enjoy fitness, joining a local gym or sports club could help you make friends with similar interests.
Overall, I think you should look at the move as a new opportunity rather than something to be afraid of. With proper planning, you can make the transition much easier.
Personal Experience
Talk about a time when you helped someone in need. Maybe you helped a stranger, a coworker, or a family member. What happened, and how did it make you feel?
Sample Response
One experience that I remember clearly happened a few months ago when one of my coworkers was struggling to complete an important project. She had several deadlines at the same time and was becoming quite stressed.
Since I had already completed a similar project, I offered to help her. First, I explained how I had organized the work and then helped her divide the project into smaller tasks. We also reviewed the most important sections together.
As a result, she was able to complete the project on time and felt much more confident about her work. I was happy that I could support her because I know how stressful it can be when you have too many responsibilities.
The experience reminded me that even a small amount of support can make a significant difference to someone.
Describe the Picture
Describe the picture to someone who cannot see it.
Sample Response Framework
The picture shows a busy, sunny beach with many people enjoying different activities near the ocean.
In the foreground, a family is building a large sandcastle together. There are children playing in the sand, while adults are helping them. I can also see beach towels, colourful umbrellas and a bucket nearby.
In the centre of the picture, several people are playing beach volleyball. There is a lifeguard tower further back, and many beachgoers are walking, sitting or relaxing near the water.
Towards the background, I can see the blue ocean, swimmers and several boats. There are also buildings along the coastline and a bright blue sky with a few clouds.
Overall, the beach looks lively, relaxing and enjoyable. It appears to be a warm summer day, and everyone seems to be having a good time.
Making Predictions
Look at the same picture in Task 3 again and predict what might happen next.
Sample Response
Judging by the busy café, I think several customers are likely to finish their meals and leave shortly. Some of the people who are working on their laptops may continue studying for another hour.
The staff will probably clean the tables once customers leave and prepare them for new visitors. Since the café appears quite busy, more customers may arrive and look for available seats.
It is also possible that the people working together will discuss their projects and eventually pack up their laptops before leaving. Overall, I expect the café to remain active over the next few hours.
Comparing and Persuading
Your friend wants to become healthier and more active. She is thinking about joining a gym, but you believe a Zumba class is a better choice. Convince your friend to join the Zumba class instead.
Sample Response
I would strongly recommend joining the Zumba class rather than going to a traditional gym. Although a gym provides access to many types of equipment, I think Zumba would be more enjoyable and motivating for you.
The biggest advantage is that Zumba combines exercise with music and social interaction. You may find it easier to stay consistent when you are participating in an energetic group activity rather than exercising alone.
Another benefit is that you don't need to spend time planning your workout. The instructor will guide the class and you can simply follow the routine.
Of course, the gym offers more equipment and flexibility, but I believe Zumba would be a better option if your main goal is to stay active and actually enjoy exercising. That's why I think you should give Zumba a try.
Dealing With a Difficult Situation
Your roommate is uncomfortable with your cousin staying in your shared apartment for a week.
Choose ONE:
Talk to your roommate and explain why you've decided to let your cousin stay.
OR
Talk to your cousin and explain why they cannot stay this time.
Sample Response – Talking to Your Roommate
I understand why you may feel uncomfortable about my cousin staying here for a week, and I don't want this situation to create tension between us.
However, my cousin is visiting the city for an important appointment and doesn't have another affordable place to stay. Since the visit is only for one week, I would like to ask if we could make a temporary arrangement.
I can make sure that my cousin respects our shared space and follows our normal household rules. I can also take responsibility for cleaning the apartment and making sure the situation doesn't inconvenience you.
If there is a particular concern you have, I would be happy to discuss it and find a compromise. I hope we can work something out without affecting our relationship as roommates.
Expressing an Opinion
Do you think employers should be allowed to monitor their employees' emails and internet activity at work?
Sample Response
I believe employers should be allowed to monitor workplace internet activity to a reasonable extent, particularly when employees are using company devices and networks.
First of all, monitoring can help companies protect confidential information and prevent security problems. For example, employees may accidentally download harmful files or visit unsafe websites, which could put company data at risk.
Secondly, reasonable monitoring can help ensure that company resources are being used appropriately. However, employers should respect employees' privacy and clearly explain what information is being monitored.
Some people may argue that monitoring creates an uncomfortable working environment. I agree that excessive surveillance can be problematic. Therefore, employers should have transparent policies and only monitor activity when there is a legitimate business reason.
Describing an Unusual Situation
You walk into a café and discover that every customer is dressed as a superhero. Call your friend and ask him if he has ever come to a café like this.
Sample Response
Hey, you won't believe what I just saw! I walked into a café and everyone here is dressed as a superhero. It is probably one of the strangest things I've seen in a café.
There are people dressed as different superheroes sitting at almost every table. Some are wearing masks and colourful costumes, while others are carrying superhero accessories. Even the atmosphere feels completely different from a normal café.
I think they might be attending a costume event or some kind of superhero-themed gathering. It actually looks quite entertaining, and I'm curious to find out what's happening.
Have you ever been to a café like this before? If you haven't, I think you should come here sometime. It would definitely be an unusual experience!
